I spent the day digging our almost dead plum tree out of the front yard.
My neighbor tells me she's lived next door for 17 years, and it's been there at least that long. The year we bought the house, tent caterpillars pretty much killed the tree. This year one lonely branch sprouted leaves.
So I was at the nursery today to get me some bulbs (grape hyacinth, etc) and there was one last fig tree sitting there, calling out to me. It has two branches full of figs, and no leaves. It's skinny and short, but it has heart, as the sports guys say. I call it my Charlie Brown fig tree.
So I plunked down $40 and came on home and started digging. I got it most of the way out myself, and the neighbors (Mona, Duane and Susan) all came over to lean on it to topple it. Now it's laying in the yard, waiting for some Craigslist sucker to come claim it.

huh? Someone hacked me or something. I can promise you I was sleeping at 7:56 a.m. In fact I might be sleeping now but I heard a chainsaw and wanted to see if it was the Craigslist guy (nope, someone else up the street).
Anyway, that was a big project yesterday, and it looked like very hard work. Nice job, baby.
Aha! Some investigative reporting revealed that the early-morning lol "mark" is a 15-year-old UK kid who likes funny cat videos and the band Linkin Park.
Wow, cool! Anyways, this is a 15 year old Michelle in Sheffield, reporting that a Craigslist sucker is scheduled to come over tomorrow to take the free dead plum tree.
I have no idea why he wants it, but I do know that Craigslist rocks.
Mystery Mark lists his favorite color as blue green white black. Hmmm. See his photo and profile here. http://mark-aboutme.blogspot.com/2007/10/this-is-me-when-me-lol-my-hairs-mess.html
nothing for anger management like pulling a whole tree up by its roots ... you must be feeling a beatific today.
that is ... you must be feeling beatific today.
and I *love* a fig tree.
Michelle - time to try the Katco fig pizza.
Kay, Kaye, Kate, Katco - I tried your lemony chicken recipe. Scrumptious! Thank you.

Wow, how awesome that Kaye's lemon chicken got transported over the Internet from Long Beach to Eugene.
I love this blog.
Wee Rita! You made my day. I'm so glad you liked the Lemony Chicken! Today I made pickled lemons. And, there are still plenty of lemons to go ...
