I bought a weird filter that advertises itself as a macro lens. I tried it out tonite and -- not so much. I'm pretty sure my zoom gets more close up than this. And I'm just not feeling it on the image quality front. Here's a few test shots:
Compared to the 24-105 lens:
I've been buying stuff from Amazon for years, but never had to return anything. I had no idea how it works. I walked myself through the process tonite, and was amazed at how simple it is. You basically just go to amazon.com/returns, answer a few questions, print out a mailing sticker and stick the thing you bought right back in the box it came in. Amazon even pays for the shipping in some cases -- including cases when the product you buy isn't as good as you thought it would be. Slammin!
At least, it seems slammin' right now. We'll see if the cash ends up back in my account ...

Hmm, I'm no photographer but those shots don't look so bad to me. Pretty close up, I'd say.
Good policy though by Amazon.
Wow, you're right. Now that I see the comparison shot with your old lens there's really a difference in quality, and no difference in close-up-itude.
Good call to return it.
