Jimmy Buffett is a jazz musician?

"Syncopatin' away in Margaritaville ...."

A common misconception. About Jazzfest that is, not Jimmy Buffett.

It's the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, with a lot of the emphasis on New Orleans heritage, loosely (but accurately) defined to include not just jazz but all kinds of popular music -- rock, pop, gospel, blues, zydeco ... you name it and it's probably been played there.

I've been there twice with Michelle and I can say, there's nothing like it.

More info here at the official site, including a history page.

FEMA HELP DESK.

That was on the last picture in your excellent slide show, which portrays New Orleans very well, showing the fun at the fest and in the French Quarter, and the terrible conditions in other sections of town. the FEMA help desk was right on the mark. they have been no help. How do you get your photos into a slide show instead of just putting them under each other the way I did? Also, a note on the jazz fest, not only do they have all kinds of jazz every day non-stop, they have all other kinds of music and dancing, including flamenco dancing, native American dancing and music, gospel, rock, etc, and they all go on in different sections, so you can go from one to another all day long, and if you go with a group everyone can go to a different location to see and or hear their favorites. The food is also amazing and there is fantastic variety, not only creole and cajan, but food from the Caribbean etc, and most prices are around $5;00. what a deal

I fell a bit voyeuristic about my time on the M&M blog, so I thought it was time to officially drop in and say Hi. I was cruising on the web for an old friend of mine from Roseburg and one of my pops was for a story about floating on the Umpqua. This brought back so many memories that I hit the link and read the summer float trip story. Imagine my surprise when I scrolled down to find out it was written by an old classmate, Mark Matassa!
I was impressed with the blog and over the past few months have come back a few times to check out the opinions, catch the reviews on movies and music and just the fun stories. I was sad to hear that you had been so ill Mark and had to go through so much over the past year.
I doubt that you would remember me from High School but you left an impression on me for your willingness to be unique and some really interesting ideas. It was fun to see that the journalism started at school turned out to be such a lifetime career and interest.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say kudos to you guys for such a good site, have fun in NOLA (it’s such a great city) and happy trails on your road trip.

Best wishes from an old fan.

Mary, how nice of you to come out of the shadows and say hi. Of course I remember you, and it's great to hear from you.

A couple of old Roseburg pals have dropped in here recently -- the wonders of Google -- and that's been cool.

So where are you now, and what are you doing?

Thanks again,
Mark

How fun to catch up. We are actually up here in Washington as well. Work in Bellevue and live up North. Small world, eh? Sadly, I haven't kept in touch with anyone from Oregon so I'm really out of the loop.
It looks like you have a great crew of gals keeping you busy. Michele's handywork on the van looks like fun. Very clever stuff.
Good to hear back from you!
